Questa domenica di fine marzo, complice il bel tempo, ho deciso di spingermi in quota per capire se l’inverno avesse davvero mollato la presa. La risposta è arrivata presto: salendo da Arsiero verso il Passo della Vena, il termometro segnava 0°C.

Asfalto pulito, ma appena fuori strada ancora mezzo metro di neve. Dal passo ho proseguito verso San Sebastiano passando sotto il Forte Campomolon e il Forte Cherle, con tratti esposti e temperature ancora rigide.

Ho scelto di restare su asfalto, risalendo verso il Passo Vezzena attraverso i borghi di Lavarone. Strade in buone condizioni, ma clima decisamente variabile. Il rientro è avvenuto attraverso la Val d’Assa verso Camporovere, poi Asiago e discesa finale su Bassano del Grappa.

Giro splendido ma da affrontare con attenzione: in questo periodo la differenza tra valle e quota è netta. Abbigliamento fondamentale — meglio gestire gli strati in modo intelligente lungo il percorso.

This late-March Sunday, taking advantage of the good weather, I decided to head up into higher elevations to see whether winter was really over. The answer came quickly: climbing from Arsiero toward Passo della Vena, the temperature dropped to 0°C.

The asphalt was clean, but just off the road there was still half a meter of snow — a condition not to underestimate. From the pass I continued toward San Sebastiano, passing below Forte Campomolon and Forte Cherle, with exposed sections and consistently low temperatures.

I chose to stay on paved roads, climbing up to Passo Vezzena through the villages of Lavarone. Road conditions were good, but the weather remained highly variable. The return was via Val d’Assa toward Camporovere, then Asiago and the final descent back to Bassano del Grappa.

A great ride, but one that requires attention: at this time of year, the difference between valley and altitude is significant. Proper gear is essential — managing layers intelligently throughout the ride is key.
